Great North Run

The Great North Run has been described as the greatest half marathon in the world.

The first Great North run was in 1981 with 10,000 runners and was devised by former Olympic 10,000m bronze medallist and BBC Sport commentator Brendon Foster along with local man William Rowe. William was later awarded a CBE for his services.

In 2014 the 34th Great North Run had 57,000 participants and celebrated the one millionth runner to cross the finish line.

This year, the 35th Great North Run will take place on Sunday 13th September. Pete Fusco, Frank Foster and a group of friends will be running to kindly raise money for the Ann Maguire Arts Education Fund. They will be wearing T-Shirts advertising the fund.

If you would like to sponsor them, please use the donation button on this website and please quote 'Great North Run' alongside your donation. Thank you.

Under the Owls - Young People Festival

The Ann Maguire Arts Education Fund (AMAEF) has given a large donation to sponsor performances by talented young performers from the Leeds area at a free mini mixed arts festival held in city this summer. This free festival is specifically geared towards 11 to 19 year olds and aims to encourage young people who usually do not have exposure to live artists to come and join in the event. Scheduled performers include: live bands: djs; live arts; and skate boarding. A classic street food market will also be provided for the hungry public!

Inspired by the artistic energy and focus of the festival, the AMAEF has provided sponsorship for young local talent to develop an exclusive piece that will ultimately be performed at the event. The scope of the artistic piece is broad, including: contemporary or traditional literature; poetry; dance and music. The fund is certainly excited to see what the talented young people of the area create for the city of Leeds!
